The Bowen Island Arts Council was formed over 30 years ago by a dedicated group of residents who wanted to create a space for artists to express themselves, and for the Bowen community to directly engage with arts on the island.
In the following years the Bowen Island Arts Council began to host events, advocate for community spaces, and in 1997 we moved into our first gallery at Artisan Square. From then on, we held over 250 exhibits and welcomed 150,000 visitors to the gallery.
In 2018 we worked with the Bowen Island Library to construct the Cove Commons, including the new Hearth Gallery space which we now call our home.
Artists of all types have shown their work at the Hearth Gallery, from painters, to sculptors, to potters, and many more. The Gallery serves as a key gathering place for Bowen’s community to engage with the arts in the form of workshops, classes, festivals, concerts, and many other cultural events.
The Hearth has always been on the forefront of evolving and growing our community. In 2020 we helped achieve a historic victory for the island by successfully campaigning for the construction of Bowen’s first community center.
But we can’t do this without you. Whether you volunteer, participate in a workshop, or generously donate, it’s your engagement that drives us forward and allows us to bring you new and exciting things in the future.
