Gregg Simpson has lived on Bowen Island for 20 years and has been creating art for most of his life. He's known for his dynamic and colorful paintings in a variety of styles, including abstract, floral, landscape, and surrealist. His work is inspired by the work of 20th century artists such as Max Ernst, Matisse, and Kandinsky. His is also inspired by the landscape near his home on Bowen Island, and by his travels in Europe, where he frequently exhibits his work. Simpson's work has been included in hundreds of solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America. Numerous academic studies, art history books and journals also feature his work, and he's been included in several historical surveys on Surrealism, including the recently published Surrealism Beyond Borders that accompanied a major exhibition of Surrealist art at the Tate Modern in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
