Gregg Simpson is known for his dynamic and colourful paintings in a variety of styles, including abstract, floral, landscape, and surrealist. His work is inspired by surrealist traditions and by the work of 20th century artists such as Max Ernst, Matisse, and Kandinsky. He is also inspired by the landscape near his home on Bowen Island in British Columbia, Canada, and by his travels in Europe, where he frequently exhibits. Simpson's work has been included in hundreds of solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America, along with numerous academic studies, art history books and journals. His work has been included in several historical surveys on surrealism, including the recently published Surrealism Beyond Borders that accompanied a major exhibition of surrealist work at the Tate Modern in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
