Kathryn Beals is a self-taught painter and woodworker, with an educational background in forestry. She works in many formats including acrylic, resin, mosaics, metal leaf and wood. Her background in science motivated her to create a fluid art technique using magnetic fields, inspired by the visual disturbances from her migraines. Her paintings are shaped by all the beautiful places she has lived in Canada and California, especially the areas she grew up on Vancouver Island, and her current home on Bowen Island. Kathryn gives back a portion of each art series to a different conservation nonprofit.
