Born in Germany in 1951, Hoopes grew up in both the US and Europe, immigrating to Canada in 1981. His formal training in Fine Arts includes a BFA from the University of IIlinois, and graduate studies at Wisconsin and Illinois State Universities. As a professional Artist and Fine Art Teacher, Hoopes’ work has been shown in public and commercial galleries and national and international exhibitions around the world, including Italy’s Biennale Internazionale Dell’ Arte Contemporanea in 2003.
His figurative paintings portray a delicate balance between humanity and the environment, reflecting the earth’s precarious ecological situation. Some depict the peaceful co-existence of humans and nature; others emphasize our contributions to environmental imbalance. In contrast, his landscapes offer idyllic scenes and a romanticized vision of the world, familiar and yet to be discovered.
