I spent my childhood honing my art (and crafting) skills in Vancouver before moving to Bowen when I was eleven. Being immersed in Bowen's wilderness, as well as my family's garden and flock of rescue chickens, has helped shape me and has had a major influence on my creative endeavors. Animals and wildlife have always featured heavily in my art, highlighting the interconnectedness between them and ourselves - it's their world, and we're just living in it!
After graduating from Emily Carr University with a degree in graphic design, I found myself returning to more handmade skills such as crochet, sewing, drawing, and now pottery. I love the humanness embodied in these mediums - the beauty in the imperfections and their tactile nature, even right down to the artist’s fingerprints.
I value the slow practice of these skills, in contrast to our fast-paced culture. There's an added level of intention when something is made by hand that I really appreciate.
