Facebook: Miki Tanaka Jewelry
Dear my customers and friends,
I would like to share little bit about me.
I'm originally from Izu Peninsula, Japan.
Growing up, I was surrounded by lots of creative energy from my family- a builder, cook, dancer, musician, calligrapher, painter, and poet - I was always fond of making things.
The big journey to North America at age 20.
After wandering and searching, I rediscovered the joy of creating while attending Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Painting was my favourite but doing some metal smithing in between gave a good balance in my creative mind. Soon after, I went to New York city to study painting at Cooper Union and metals at Parsons.
New York city fascinated me. I lived in so many different neighbourhood, making art and jewelry, and I had met and made many extraordinary friends there.
New York city became my home away home, and I lived there for 18 years.
Started Miki Tanaka jewelry in 2001, my jewelry was and is sold in stores in USA, Japan, Australia and UK.
Our last NY studio/home was in Redhook, Brooklyn.
Moved to Bowen Island, British Columbia in 2017.
Currently my husband, Bob (who has been with me since 1997 and is originally from Bowen Island), 3 brooklynites cats (we brought them from brooklyn!) and I live on Bowen Island.
We opened the studio/store in Artisan Square on the Island.
I love cooking, playing ukulele, always lived near ocean, enjoy black medium roast coffee, love wearing loose clothes and being bare feet, love writing letters and drawing people and cats.
I love the challenge of making things.
I love seeing my jewelry on people.
Hope to see you at our store on Bowen Island someday!
